YAAAY! I am so excited that you chose me to be your senior photographer. I cannot wait to work with you, celebrate all of your academic accomplishments, dream about the future with you, and make you feel like an absolute rockstar in front of my lens!
Here are some tips to help you look and feel your best during your shoot.
1. Stay True to You!
Your senior photos are a reflection of your personality and style, so it’s important to choose outfits that make you feel confident, comfortable, and like YOU.
2. Choose Colors That Complement You
Select colors that enhance your skin tone and make your features pop. Jewel tones, neutrals, and earth tones photograph beautifully. Try to avoid bright, neon colors and if you love patterns, stick to simple ones.
Pattern Tips: If you want to wear a pattern, go for smaller, subtle patterns like delicate florals or thin stripes. Avoid large logos, plaids, or busy patterns that could distract from your face.
Complementary colors (opposite each other on the color wheel) can make your outfit pop in a good way! Pairing two complementary colors can create a balanced and eye-catching look without being overwhelming.

3. Textures and Layers
Textures like lace, knits, denim, or silk create visual interest. You can layer your outfits with jackets or cardigans to add depth to your look. Layers also give you more flexibility to change your look easily during the shoot.
4. Pick Timeless Pieces
While it’s tempting to go for the latest trends, try to stay with timeless pieces that won’t look outdated when you look back on your photos years from now.
5. Accessories
Accessories can elevate your outfit, but don’t overdo it. Simple jewelry like dainty necklaces or hoop earrings can complement your look without being overwhelming. Hats, belts, or even a stylish jacket can also add a fun twist. Just avoid anything too large or flashy, as it might draw too much attention away from you.

6. Multiple Outfits
If you chose an hour-long session, there will be time for 2 different outfits. You can use your clothing choices to mix up the vibe: one casual and one semi formal.
7. Consider Your Location
Your outfits should complement the location where your photos will be taken. The right colors will complement your surroundings and make you stand out in your photos.
- Natural Locations (Parks, Forests, Lakes): Earthy tones like olive green, mustard yellow, and soft pastels look great in nature. Jewel tones like deep burgundy, emerald green, and navy blue also pop beautifully against the natural greenery. An all black or white dress is always a great go-to classic.
- Urban Settings (Downtown, Graffiti Walls, City Streets): I always recommend staying away from patterned or printed clothing in urban settings as an urban backdrop is always more busy than a natural one. Busy clothing and a busy backdrop is a recipe for sore eyes when you look at your pictures.

8. Footwear Matters
Your shoes will show, so make sure they complete your look. For a more casual vibe, sneakers like Vans or ankle boots work great. For a dressy look, heels or wedges can elongate your legs and add sophistication. Please avoid trainers. Make sure whatever you choose is comfortable or bring a different pair of shoes to walk in.
9. Hair and Makeup
Keep your hair and makeup natural but polished. Your makeup should enhance your features without looking too heavy. If you’re not used to wearing a lot of makeup, a little mascara, blush, and lip gloss can go a long way.
10. Test Run
If you’re unsure about your outfit choices, try them on ahead of time and take a few photos to see how they look and fit you. This can help you catch any issues like see-through fabrics, unflattering cuts, or accessories that don’t work as well as you hoped.
